This 1987 Mercedes-Benz 280GE is a European-market Cabriolet that is powered by a 2.8L inline-six mated to a four-speed manual gearbox and a two-speed transfer case. The truck is finished in metallic black and features W463 body panels, bumpers, lighting, and more. Additional equipment includes a black soft top, running boards, heated Recaro leather seats, wood trim, a Lorinser steering wheel, and an aftermarket stereo system. Work carried out in July 2019 included a new battery and fuel lines, and service performed in March 2020 in preparation of the sale included rebuilding the warm-up regulator, flushing the coolant, and performing an oil change. This 280GE is now offered by the selling dealer with service records and a clean Maryland title.
Originally finished in Cream (9201), the body was refinished in metallic black and has been fitted with W463 bumpers, front fenders, mirrors, fender flares, headlight buckets, headlights and taillights, side market lights, and a rear tire cover. Additional equipment includes a brush guard with fog lights, turn signal guards, running boards, and a replacement black soft top. “Lorinser” and “Grand Edition” badges have also been added to the body. The trim is missing on the passenger door, and the rear tire cover shows damage.
Factory 15″ wheels are wrapped in BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM tires sized 33×10.50″. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.
The cabin is fitted with heated Recaro front seats that were reupholstered in black with gray center sections. A matching rear bench features three headrests, and plaid fabric accents the door panels. Aftermarket speakers are fitted, although the head unit is missing its face plate.
A four-spoke Lorinser steering wheel fronts a black metal dash with gray plastics and burled wood trim. Instrumentation includes a 150-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. Approximately 22k miles are shown on the five-digit mechanical odometer, with true mileage unknown.
The 2.8L M110.994 gasoline-powered inline-six drives the rear or all four wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox and a two-speed transfer case. Records indicate the clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing were replaced in August 2015. Work carried out in July 2019 included a new battery and fuel lines, while service performed in March 2020 in preparation of the sale included rebuilding the warm-up regulator, flushing the coolant, and performing an oil change. Additional service records are available in the gallery below.
Corrosion is shown on the exhaust, and additional photos of the underbody and suspension are viewable in the gallery. A driving video is provided below.
