This 1983 Mercedes-Benz 230GE cabriolet was acquired by the seller in the Netherlands and imported to the US in October 2019. The truck was refurbished prior to importation with work reportedly including rust remediation, a repaint in white, overhauling the suspension, and refreshing the black vinyl interior. Power is provided by a 2.3-liter inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Features include locking front and rear differentials, a removable hardtop, a black soft top, 15″ alloy wheels, and a cassette stereo. The seller states that recent service includes a brake fluid flush, window regulator maintenance, and oil changes for the engine, transmission, transfer case, axles, and differentials. This 230GE is now offered with a copy of the Mercedes-Benz data card, import documents, and a clean Virginia title in the name of the seller’s business.
The body was removed from the frame and repainted in its original white during the refurbishment, and the seller states that work also included rust remediation and replacing the exterior trim. The truck is depicted with and without its aftermarket hardtop installed, and a black soft top and frame are included in the sale. Close-ups of the body panels and trim, as well as photos of the refurbishment, can be viewed in the gallery.
Black 15″ basketweave alloy wheels wear 31×10.5″ Mirage MR-AT172 tires. Braking is from discs in front and drums out back. Koni dampers are fitted all around, and the seller states that the suspension bushings were replaced during the refurbishment.
The cabin features black vinyl on the seating surfaces and door panels. Equipment includes an analog clock, a center console with cup holders, dash-mounted USB ports, a cassette stereo, and a passenger grab bar. The shifter and shift linkage are said to have been rebuilt during the interior refresh.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames a 180-km/h speedometer, gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature, and indicators for the differential locks. The five-digit odometer shows 48k kilometers (~30k miles), approximately 12k of which were added by the seller.
Oak paneling and black L-track tie-down rails have been added to the cargo area floor.
The 2.3-liter inline-four produced 123 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque when new. The seller states that the refurbishment included a valve adjustment and replacing the head gasket, battery, spark plug wires, spark plugs, drive belts, and engine and transmission mounts. Service at 47.5k kilometers included an oil change and replacing the engine air filter.
Power is routed to the rear or all four wheels through a five-speed manual transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and locking front and rear differentials. The seller states that the refurbishment included refinishing the frame and transmission case, balancing and lubricating the driveshafts, and replacing the transmission throwout bearing, hand-brake cables, brake hard lines, front axle bearings, seals, and bearings, seals, and CV joints. An updated fuel tank and custom exhaust system were also installed.
The data plate is shown above. A redacted photo of the current title is shown in the gallery, and it lists the VIN number shown above with an added “WDB” prefix. A driving clip featuring start-up footage can be viewed below. |
